Postcards from Italy - Italian for Travelers (Schedule)

You don’t need a passport to immerse yourself in Italian life! Our new interactive extended length series of classes create real-life Italian situations to quickly build your conversation skills. Learn the words and expressions that will help you make the most of your next trip to Italy.


Italian 1 (Schedule)

This course is for the beginner student with no knowledge of Italian. After completion, the course will be able to speak in present tense and be able to read and write basic sentences. This course approximately covers the first three chapters in the Prego, 6th edition textbook.


Italian 2 (Schedule)

Students will build upon Italian 1 and learn more vocabulary and grammar so they will be able to speak more about basic everyday situations. Students will also be using past tense. This course approximately covers chapters four through six in the Prego, 6th edition textbook.


Italian 3 (Schedule)

Continuing on the previous courses (Italian 1 and 2), students will be increasing their proficiency and will be able to speak about basic situations using present, past and future tenses. This course approximately covers chapters seven through ten in the Prego, 6th edition textbook.


In Conversation (Schedule)

Italian culture--- cuisine, cinema, lifestyles, music, fashion, etc. ---creates an inspirational starting point for animated discussions in this course. Through readings and conversation, students will both enrich their knowledge of Italy and build a larger vocabulary with which to enjoy the country and its people. This course comes after completion of Italian 3 (or equivalent). Materials provided by the school.


Intermediate 1 (Schedule)

Coming after ‘In Conversation’, this course will enable students to gain a deeper understanding of grammar concepts. Students will read short stories and engage in conversation. This course approximately covers chapters ten through twelve in the Prego, 6th edition textbook.


Intermediate 2 (Schedule)

Following ‘Intermediate 1’, this course will continue building on grammar concepts. At the same time, students will improve their listening, comprehension and speaking skills. This course approximately covers chapters twelve through fourteen in the Prego, 6th edition textbook.


Intermediate 3 (Schedule)

Coming after ‘Intermediate 2’, this course will continue working on increasingly difficult grammar concepts. Students will engage in conversation and can give small oral presentations to the class on a topic of their choice. This course approximately covers chapters fourteen through seventeen in the Prego, 6th edition textbook.


Intermediate 4 (Schedule)

Following ‘Intermediate 3’, this course concludes the study of Italian grammar from the Prego textbook. Students will further enrich their vocabulary and will be able to hold conversations about everyday life. This course serves as an entry to the advanced levels. This course approximately covers chapters seventeen through eighteen in the Prego, 6th edition textbook.


Advanced Italian (Schedule)

This series of courses come after completion of Intermediate 4 (or equivalent). For students with conversational ability who want to reinforce their understanding of advanced grammar, build familiarity with idiomatic expressions and expand their vocabulary. Students will be encouraged to discuss literature, articles, cinema, music, current events and Italian culture in general. Each course is based on the Da Capo textbook, 6th edition, and covers approximately four chapters.


ONGOING COURSES

We offer a series of two ongoing courses, that are intended for students who have completed both the Prego and Da Capo textbooks (or equivalent). Also for students with conversational ability, who may have not have been able to practice much and wish to come back. These classes will emphasis ongoing practice and review to help improve upon their skills.

1 - Intermediate Reading, Writing & Conversation (Schedule)

The students will be provided with written material such as short stories, articles, etc. that highlight various aspects of Italian culture. These topics will be used for discussion and the students will be encouraged to interact as much as possible. Special emphasis on vocabulary and idiomatic expressions.

2 - Advanced Reading, Writing & Conversation (Schedule)

Students will be encouraged to use real Italian language as they go through films, literature and listening to CD’s. They will discuss cultural topics, current social issues and the Italian culture in general. Important Italian personalities such as actors, politicians, writers, singers and many others will be introduced to the students.


Letteratura (Schedule)

Introducing advanced students to the pleasure of classic and contemporary Italian literature. We will read and discuss short stories or a novel, written by authors including Italo Calvino, Alberto Moravia, Dino Buzzati, Natalia Ginzburg, Stefano Benni, and many others. Fluency is required for this course.


Learning Assistance Classes (Schedule)

In this series of classes an Italingua Institute teacher will assist students with questions and offer academic reinforcement during the term break. These FREE classes are open only to current students. Reservations are highly appreciated. Minimum 5 students required.
