This intensive workshop will help you improve your Italian pronunciation and reduce your English accent. We will practice sounds and intonation patterns, using a comparative approach to highlight differences between Italian and English. Learn how to articulate double consonants, vowels, sounds that are unique to the Italian language. Find out what changes occur when words are linked together. Discover the importance of placement of word stress and arrangement of pitches in a sentence. We will also practice reading to highlight spelling features that may lead to mispronunciation. The workshop will include a brief discussion of standard national pronunciation versus regional variations. The instructor, Alessandra Cattani, has many years of experience teaching Italian diction and has worked as lyric diction coach with the San Francisco Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Opera San Jose, and the San Francisco Opera Arts Training Program.
