TRAVELER COURSES

Italian for Travelers — Postcards From Italy

You don’t need a passport to immerse yourself in Italian life. This interactive course creates real-life Italian situations using role play to quickly build your conversation skills. Learn words and expressions that will help you make the most of your next trip to Italy.

ELEMENTARY COURSES

A1-Beginner 1

Also a Great Class for Travelers!

This course is for beginners with no knowledge of Italian. After completing this class, students will be able to speak using present tense, adjectives, possessive adjectives, and read and write basic sentences.

Textbook: Il Nuovo Affresco Italiano – A1

Italiano 2

Students will build upon Italiano 1 and learn more vocabulary and grammar so they will be able to speak more about basic everyday situations. Students will also learn how to use perfect tense, prepositions, direct and indirect object pronouns, and more.


Textbook: Prego, 7th Edition

Ripasso Italiano 1 & 2 and Conversazione

In this course students will review and reinforce some of the more challenging aspects presented in Italiano 1 and Italiano 2. Students will begin reading basic stories and more emphasis will be on conversation, vocabulary, and strengthening speaking skills.

Italiano 3

Continuing on the previous courses (A1-Beginner 1 and Italiano 2), students will be increasing their proficiency and will be able to speak about basic situations using present, perfect, imperfect, and future tenses.

INTERMEDIATE COURSES

Intermedio 1

Following Italiano 3, this course will enable students to gain a deeper understanding of more grammar concepts, such as; si impersonale, ci and ne, double pronouns and imperative. Students will read short stories and engage in conversation.

Intermedio 2

Following Intermedio 1, this course will continue building on grammar concepts. Including conditional present, conditional past, relative pronouns, negatives and more. At the same time, students will improve their listening, reading, comprehension and speaking skills.

Ripasso Grammatica e Conversazione

Following Intermedio 2, this course which will continue building on grammar,  reviewing the most important grammar concepts so far. Including passato prossimo e imperfetto, comparatives, superlatives, pronouns, and more. Emphasis will be on improving listening, reading, comprehension and speaking skills.

Intermedio 3

Following Ripasso Grammatica e Conversazione. This course continues the journey of building Italian grammar concepts, along with listening, reading, comprehension and speaking skills. Students will learn passato remoto, some idiomatic verbs, with special attention to present and past subjunctive, and more.

Intermedio 4

Following Intermedio 3, the journey continues building on grammar concepts such as imperfect and pluperfect of the subjunctive, correlation of the four subjunctive tenses, and hypothetical period. Students continue to practice and improve listening, reading, comprehension and speaking skills.

Introduzione alla Conversazione

Following Intermedio 4 or equivalent. This course is mainly a conversational class after learning the basic foundation of grammar. With this course we will focus on conversation, enriching vocabulary, oral presentation, listening, comprehension and reading, with the goal of becoming more comfortable speaking the Italian language.

PRE-AVANZATO

Pre-Avanzato 1

This series of courses come after completion of Intermedio 1-4 (or equivalent). For students with conversational ability who want to reinforce their understanding of Italian grammar, practice reading and speaking and expand their vocabulary. This course will start with some simple grammar concepts — things you have already encountered previously — but this will be a more thorough, robust approach. This is the beginning of the journey to becoming advanced. Students will be encouraged to discuss literature, articles, Italian culture, etc.

The supplemental/additional practice class for students that are currently enrolled in Pre-Avanzato 1 or at a more advanced level who want to review skills and get extra practice. In this course we will use audio, video, reading, conversation, oral presentations and role play to practice and reinforce our skills. Oral conversation will be the main focus of these 8 weeks.

* – Must be enrolled in the above main class (or an equivalent) to join the Supplemental/Additional Practice class.

Pre-Avanzato 2

ON-GOING INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED COURSES

Revisione Pre-Avanzata

We recommend this course after completing Pre-Avanzato 5 or equivalent.

Designed to help students build confidence and improve their Italian conversational fluency, in an encouraging and lively environment. We use various activities through live conversation to provide students an opportunity to improve listening and speaking skills and enhance vocabulary, along with some review of grammar. This is an ongoing class to aid the students’ in their regular scheduled class.

Conversazione Intermedia e Ripasso Grammatica

This is a high-intermediate level conversational class.

You will strengthen your intermediate level speaking skills through regular practice, oral presentations, reading and writing. If needed, time will be spent in class reviewing some grammatical principles. Instructors make use of multimedia to teach and reinforce lessons. Doing so will make each class lively, varied, and engaging.

Conversazione Avanzata e Ripasso Grammatica

Requires Italian fluency.

This is an advanced conversational class which requires Italian fluency level. In this course we will go more in-depth with advanced reading, writing, oral presentations, and listening and comprehension. If needed, time will be spent in class to review grammar principals.  Instructors will also integrate multimedia to reinforce lessons, providing a more deep and meaningful learning experience. Doing so will make each class lively, varied, and engaging.

Our engaging mini-focused courses are designed for students who wish to become more proficient in reading, writing and speaking Italian. Students will be immersed in interactive, creative exercises with emphasis on improving writing skills, increasing reading comprehension and enriching conversation abilities.

Recommended as an accompanying class to your current course.

Cine Club!

High-Intermediate/Advanced level.

Enhance your conversation, vocabulary, and listening skills, while discussing films from a variety of genres. Our Cine Club will deepen your understanding of the culture, history, and humor of the Italian people and language. Thought provoking discussions led by native-Italian, university-trained teachers in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

Book Club!

Advanced level – Fluency required.

In this Book Club / Course, we will be reading a pre-selected Italian book. Conversation and discussion of the book, along with building vocabulary will be the focus of these four weeks.
